Inspect Accessible Penetrations
Look around accessible areas where pipes, wiring, vents, or utilities pass through a wall or ceiling.
Watch for:
- Visible gaps
- Missing or deteriorated sealant
- Water staining
- Condensation
- Peeling paint
- Damaged surrounding material
- Signs that an opening has changed since the previous season
Do not disturb electrical components, insulation, plumbing, or materials that may contain hazardous substances. Contact the appropriate licensed professional if you identify a problem outside normal painting and sealing work.
Check the Attic Access
An attic hatch or pull-down stair may allow air movement when it does not close or seal properly. Minnesota weatherization resources identify air-leakage reduction and attic insulation as common efficiency improvements. (Minnesota Department of Commerce) An energy auditor or insulation professional can evaluate the home’s complete building envelope. Cowboy Painting does not provide energy audits or insulation services.
Inspect Exterior Faucets
Exterior faucets and the surrounding wall penetration should be visually inspected before freezing weather. Follow the winterization directions appropriate for your plumbing system. If a faucet leaks, does not shut off, or appears damaged, contact a qualified plumber. When the surrounding painted surface has cracked caulking, peeling paint, or exposed material, Cowboy Painting can evaluate the painting and sealing portion after plumbing issues are corrected.
Photograph What You Find
Take clear, dated photographs of gaps, stains, or damaged coatings. These images create a helpful baseline and make it easier to determine whether the condition changes during winter.
For peeling paint, failed caulking, and exposed sound surfaces around exterior penetrations, contact Cowboy Painting LLC for a professional painting estimate.
