Common Places to Inspect
Walk around the accessible portions of your home and look near:
- Window and door trim
- Exterior corner boards
- Siding and trim transitions
- Utility and plumbing penetrations
- Garage-door trim
- Porch and deck connections
- Previously caulked joints
- Painted seams that have opened
Take note of cracks, missing sealant, loose paint, bare wood, or spaces that appear to lead behind the finished surface.
Determine the Cause Before Sealing
A gap may develop because caulking failed, wood moved, paint separated, or a nearby material deteriorated. In some situations, an opening may be intentional for drainage or ventilation. Sealing every visible space without understanding its purpose can create new moisture problems. If you see significant movement, rot, a leak, damaged siding, or a problem involving the roof or foundation, contact the appropriate repair specialist.
Painting and Sealing Work Together
When a joint is appropriate for sealing, the surrounding surface may also need preparation. Loose paint should be removed, bare areas may require primer, and the final coating must be compatible with the caulk or sealant. This creates a coordinated protective system instead of a temporary cosmetic patch. Cowboy Painting LLC provides painting, surface preparation, appropriate caulking, and sealing for painted exterior surfaces. We do not provide insulation, HVAC, roofing, or structural repairs.
Don’t Wait for the First Snow
Minnesota’s first freeze can limit which exterior products can be applied successfully. Inspecting your home in September gives you more time to request estimates and determine whether the work can be completed before winter.
